Device Lifecycle Management at the Edge

As the role of firmware and software is increasing in Edge Devices, to the point that they define the product, device updateability in the field, control of the offered services as well as collected/stored data from multiple sensors, becomes critical. Taking things a bit further, performing the updates and enforcing control securely, having the ability to verify if devices are genuine (or not), and the security stance of the device, are the foundation on which the more visible update and control capabilities are built. This session will try to define a lifecycle concept for Edge Devices, detail why the device lifecycle is increasingly relevant today and how can one apply it to facilitate device manufacturing, deployment and management. Examining this topic from multiple perspectives (device user, OEM/device provider, silicon provider) allows us to propose a secure and efficient approach for implementing the device lifecycle, from the silicon up. Industry examples will be discussed, including how to upgrade machine learning at the edge from the cloud.
